Archiving a Location

Archiving a location allows you to stop collecting new logs while preserving all your historical data. This is useful when you want to retire a location temporarily or permanently, reduce ingestion costs, or simply stop monitoring a site that’s no longer active—all without losing access to your compliance and audit logs.

When you archive a location, several things occur automatically:

  • Log ingestion stops immediately – No new logs will be collected or processed
  • Historical logs remain accessible – All existing logs are preserved and can be viewed through the archives
  • Meraki integration is removed – If the location was linked to a Cisco Meraki network, that connection is automatically removed
  • Location status changes – The location displays an “Archived” badge and status indicator
  • Reversible action – You can unarchive the location later if needed

Make sure your location meets these requirements:

  • Location must be inactive – The location should not be actively receiving logs. If it’s currently enabled, disable it first and wait for ingestion to stop.
  • Proper permissions – You need Member role or higher in your organization to archive locations.
  1. Navigate to the location’s details page
  2. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top right corner
  3. Select “Archive Location” from the dropdown
  4. Confirm your decision in the warning dialog that appears
  5. The location status will immediately change to “Archived”

Once archived, you’ll see a gray “Archived” badge on the location, and a banner will appear explaining the archived state with a “Browse Archives” button to access your historical logs.

Even after archiving, all your historical logs remain fully accessible:

  • Use the “Browse Archives” button on the archived location’s page
  • Search and filter through historical data just like active logs
  • Download archived logs if needed for compliance or auditing

The archived logs retain all their original metadata, including ASN information and other log details, ensuring you maintain complete audit trails.

If you need to resume monitoring a location:

  1. Open the archived location’s details page
  2. Click the three-dot menu (⋮)
  3. Select “Unarchive Location” (no confirmation dialog required)
  4. The location returns to “Inactive” status
  5. Enable the location to resume log ingestion

Note that unarchiving doesn’t automatically restart log collection—you’ll need to enable the location after unarchiving.

To view all your archived locations:

  • Go to your organization’s Locations page
  • Use the status filter to select “Archived”
  • In card view, archived locations appear in a separate section
  • Each archived location displays the gray “Archived” badge

This makes it easy to manage your location lifecycle and quickly identify which sites are no longer actively monitored.

Consider archiving a location when you:

  • Decommission a site – The physical location is being closed or retired
  • Reduce costs – Stop ingestion for locations you don’t need to monitor actively
  • Maintain compliance – Preserve historical logs while stopping new data collection
  • Seasonal operations – Temporarily archive locations that are only used part of the year
  • Project completion – Archive temporary locations after a project ends

Archiving gives you full control over your log ingestion costs while ensuring you never lose access to important historical data for compliance, auditing, or troubleshooting purposes.
